Thailand’s government confirmed on Sunday that it had discovered 33 new coronavirus infections bringing the total number of infected to 2,551.

It is the lowest number of new cases in a 24 hour period in the past three weeks.

“I am very encouraged by the news,” said government spokesman Dr Thaweesin Visanuyothin. “But if we look at the countries around us and how bad the situation is getting, it is very worrying.”

There were 3 new fatalities bringing the death toll to 38.

83 more patients have recovered from the virus bringing the total number of discharged patients to 1,218.

The predominant number of cases was found in the Greater Bangkok Area with 1,427 patients while the number of cases in Thailand’s deep south also increased to 486 cases making it the country’s second-largest outbreak site.
