Six additional persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 34 hours, bringing the total number of cases in Guyana to 256.
The six persons came from 43 tests done, according to the Ministry of Public Health.
To date 2,711 persons were tested.
There are currently 125 active cases in institutional isolation while 117 persons have recovered. There is one person in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital and 16 persons are institutional quarantine.
Guyana has so far recorded 14 deaths.
The Ministry’s daily update was presented by Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Karen Gordon-Boyle who used the death of the father of three from Bartica to plead with persons to take precautions.
“I am pleading with you, therefore, to consider your actions and envisage that life could change in a wink. Avoid the COVID-19 trauma and cooperate fully with the compliance division of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Civil Defence Commission, the Army and the police who will be working collaboratively with the Ministry of Public Health to contain the spread of this fatal disease in your communities,” she said.
Gordon-Boyle urged persons to desist from spreading rumours that the disease is imaginary.
She noted that while some persons recover, some can suffer brain damage, paralysis and irreversible lung damage.
