PNG records another COVID-19 death as total cases reach 1,139

Papua New Guinea has recorded another COVID-19 death bringing the total number of deaths from COVID-19 to 11.

A 67 year old male from the National Capital District is the latest reported COVID-19 death. He was admitted to the Port Moresby General Hospital on the 21st of this month and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit till his death.

The death comes as 28 new cases have been reported in the Western Province and in the National Capital District – 20 in Western Province whilst eight in the NCD.

In NCD, a total of four males and four females between the ages of 24 to 54 were tested positive. Five case showed symptoms of COVID-19 whilst three were asymptomatic at the time of testing. Five of the eight cases came into contact with a previous positive case.

In the Western Province, 17 males and three females between the ages of 26 to 59 were confirmed positive. Four out of the 20 cases came into contact with previous positive cases.

The country’s COVID-19 total stands at 1,139 with 11 known deaths.

Seventeen provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases. The distribution of the cases is as follows:

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 111,419,939 including 280,853 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.

The death toll is 2,470,939 of which 6,884 were reported in the last 24 hours. See More
