Thailand’s government said on Sunday that it had discovered 3 new coronavirus infections bringing the total number of infected to 2,969.
There were no new fatalities with the death toll still at 54.
7 more patients have recovered from the virus bringing the total number of discharged patients to 2,739.
Sunday was the first day of Thailand’s lockdown easing measures as some businesses and services were allowed to reopen after a month of closures.
The government will wait 14 days to see if infection numbers spike before either allowing more businesses to reopen or to reintroduce the lockdown measures.
“Today we are partially reopening,” said government spokesperson Dr Thaweesin Visanuyothin. “But that means we have to maintain our vigilance and keep up safety protocols to avoid a second wave of infections.”
