MEDIA STATEMENT
ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19
IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM
08 Muharram 1443 / 17 August 2021

 
1.             The Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, Monday, 08 Muharram 1443 / 17 August 2021, sixty-five (65) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 852.

  • Additional cases to currently active clusters are as follows:
    • 11 cases for Champion 7 Cluster;
    • 9 cases for the Chung Hua KB Cluster;
    • 3 cases for BSP HQ Cluster;
    • 2 cases for Dragonboat Cluster;
    • 1 case for Semporna Enak Cluster;
    • 1 case for ABCi Cluster;
    • 1 case for Al-Falah/Freda Radin Cluster;
    • 1 case for 635 Cluster; and
    • 1 case for Total Cluster.

 

  • Meanwhile, 2 new clusters have been identified:
    • 10 new cases today are related to Case 762 that was reported on 16 August 2021. This cluster is now known as the The Mall Cluster.
    • 3 new cases are related to Case 597 that was reported on 13 August 2021. This cluster is now known as the Aker Cluster.

       

  • Meanwhile, there are 4 import cases reported today:
    • Cases 811, 814 and 815 arrived from Manila on 4 August 2021 via flight Royal Brunei BI684.
    • Case 825 is a 1-year old child who is one of the children from a family that arrived from Africa via Kuala Lumpur on 30 July 2021 onboard flight Royal Brunei BI874. Four (4) other members of the family tested positive on 9 August 2021.

       

  • However, there are 18 cases where the source of infection is still being determined.

 

  • The cases in the active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.

 

  • Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.

 
2.             Meanwhile, no cases who are treated at the National Isolation Centre have recovered today bringing the total of recovered cases to remain at 333 cases. This means, a total of 516 active cases have been recorded in Brunei Darussalam.
 
3.             Among the active cases, two cases are in critical condition requiring respiratory assistance while seven other cases are under close monitoring at the National Isolation Centre.

 
4.             In the past 24 hours, a total of 3,310 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 179,420 tests.
 

5.             Here, I would also like to advise the cases who are tested positive and are in preparation to be transferred to the National Isolation Centre to refer to the information sheet that has been provided to know the list of essentials when placed at the National Isolation Centre. This list can be found in the Ministry of Health’s website.
 

6.             At this time, I would like to urge all frontliners to remain strong and steadfast in carrying out their duties and responsibilities entrusted to them in order to safeguard the well-being of the citizen and residents of Brunei Darussalam.
