ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

1.            The Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, Sunday, 28 Zulhijjah1442 / 08 August 2021, seventeen (17) cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 364.

 

  • Five of the new cases i.e. Case 348 and Case 351 until Case 354 are close contacts to Case 346.
  • Case 348 is a 31 year old asymptomatic man.
  • Case 351 is a 8 year old child, she started developing mild symptoms on 6 August 2021.
  • Case 352 is a 6 year old asymptomatic child.
  • Case 353 is a 38 year old man who started developing mild symptoms on 7 August 2021.
  • Case 354 is a 8 year old child, she started developing mild symptoms on 7 August 2021.
  • This cluster is known as the Al-Falah Cluster.

     

  • Case 349 and 350 arrived in the country from Manila on 4 August 2021 on board Royal Brunei flight BI684. Case 349 is a 34 year old man, meanwhile Case 350 is a 43 year old man. Both cases are asymptomatic.

     

  • Seven of the cases reported today i.e. Case 355 to 361 are close contacts of Case 345.
  • Case 355 is a 50 year old man who is the colleague of Case 345. He started developing mild symptoms on 6 August 2021.
  • Case 356 is a 45 year old asymptomatic man wo is the colleague of Case 345.
  • Case 357 is a 55 year old asymptomatic woman who is the sister of Case 345.
  • Case 358 is a 46 year old asymptomatic woman who is the wife of Case 345.
  • Case 359 is a 72 year old man who is the colleague of Case 345. He started developing mild symptoms on 6 August 2021.
  • Case 360 is a 64 year old asymptomatic man who is the colleague of Case 345.
  • Case 361 is a 56 year old man who is the colleague of Case 345. He started developing mild symptoms on 6 August 2021.
  • This cluster is now known as TOTAL Cluster.

     

  • Case 362 is a 13 year old child who started developing mild symptoms on 5 August 2021. He has no travel history abroad.

     

  • Case 363 is a 16 year old, he started developing mild symptoms on 2 August 2021. This case has no travel history abroad.

     

  • Case 364 is a 43 year old woman who started developing mild symptoms on 3 August 2021. This case has no travel history abroad.

 

  • Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.

 

2.           With these latest cases, Brunei Darussalam has detected fifteen (15) local cases today. At the same time, investigations is currently ongoing to identify the cause of infection for three of the cases. With this, Brunei Darussalam has recorded three (3) active clusters.

 

3.           Following this, currently a total of 67 active cases are being treated at the National Isolation Centre.

 

4.           In the past 24 hours, a total of 850 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 156,695 tests.

 

5.           Following the increase in COVID-19 cases, the Ministry of Health would like to advise the public with signs of infection, especially individuals who are likely to be exposed to any of the clusters to seek immediate treatment and perform the SARS-CoV-2 test at the following Swabbing Centers:

  1. Sports Complex, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital
  2. SARI Centre, Suri Seri Begawan Hospital
  3. Berakas Health Centre
  4. Pengkalan Batu Health Centre
  5. Seria Health Centre

The clusters mentioned above includes the Starlodge Cluster reported yesterday, specifically for anyone who have recently visited the Starlodge Hotel, Jerudong between 27 July 2021 to 7 August 2021.

 

6.           As mentioned in the press conference on 7 August 2021 where the Ministry of Health stated on the changes in the face mask guidelines, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that any individual who fails to comply with the directive for wearing the face mask may be liable to a compound fine of $100 under Section 62(A) of the Infectious Diseases Act Chapter 204.

7.           To improve the contact tracing, the Ministry of Health will also introduce a short message notification via the BruHealth App to anyone who may have been exposed to any of the newly confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Individuals who have received this notification is required to immediately go to any nearby Swabbing Centre to get tested.

 

Therefore, the Ministry of Health would like to advise the public who rarely use the BruHealth App to activate the app and scan the QR code every time they enter and exit any premises, in addition to activating the Bluetooth function while in public places. The cooperation of the public in this matter greatly helps the Ministry of Health to implement contact tracing immediately and effectively.

 

8.           Meanwhile, the restriction on mass gatherings announced on 7 August 2021 is exempted for health facilities such as hospitals, clinics, vaccination centres and swabbing centres whether government or private facilities that provide medical services to the public. In the meantime, individuals who have been given a quarantine order is not allowed to leave their quarantine area to get the COVID-19 vaccine either to get the first dose or the second dose.

 

9.           The Ministry of Health will continue to monitor the situation in the country as well as regionally and globally level and continuously carry out relevant risk assessments. The Ministry of Health will notify the public of any changes to the situation, if necessary from time to time.
