ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

05 Muharram 1443 / 14 August 2021

 

1.          The Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, Saturday, 05 Muharram 1443 / 14 August 2021, fourty-two (42) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 640.

  • Additional cases to currently active clusters are as follows:
    • 7 cases for Immigration Cluster;
    • 4 cases for ABCi Cluster;
    • 4 cases for Champion 7 Cluster;
    • 4 cases for the 477 Cluster;
    • 3 cases for Chung Hua KB Cluster;
    • 1 case for TOTAL Cluster;
    • 1 case for Semporna Enak Cluster; and
    • 1 case for Al-Falah/Freda Radin Cluster.

       

  • 1 new case (Case 624) is related to Case 432, Case 566 and Case 499. This cluster is now known as the BSP HQ Cluster.

     

  • Meanwhile, 1 new cluster have been identified:
    • 1 new case today (Case 620) is related to Case 448 and Case 563. This cluster is now known as the IBTE KB Cluster.

       

  • Meanwhile, there are 15 cases where the source of infection is still being determined.

 

  • The cases in the active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.

 

  • Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.

 

2.          Meanwhile, 3 cases who were treated at the National Isolation Centre have recovered bringing the total of recovered cases to 330. Currently, a total of 307 active cases have been recorded in Brunei Darussalam.

 

3.          Among the active cases, two are in critical condition requiring respiratory assistance while two other cases are under close monitoring at the National Isolation Centre.

 

4.          In the past 24 hours, a total of 2,708 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 169,769 tests.

 

5.          In regards to a viral photo circulating on social media regarding a woman who was seen lying on the ground at the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital, Kuala Belait, the Ministry of Health would like to inform that the individual is in a stable condition. She came to seek treatment at the hospital but unfortunately had to wait a long time until she suffered from heat exhaustion. However, she was immediately given emergency treatment and at this time, was allowed to return home.

 

6.          The Ministry of Health would like to advice the public to,

  1. Always maintain personal hygiene and wash hands regularly;
  2. Wear a face mask at all times, especially when indoors or when in crowded places either indoor or outdoor;
  3. Get two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine according to the booking schedule. The Ministry of Health is currently working to expand vaccination slots and venues in the near future which will enable more citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam to get vaccinated safely;
  4. See a doctor and get a SARS-CoV-2 swab test if you have symptoms of infection such as fever, soar throat, cough and cold, loss in sense of taste or smell, etc.;
  5. Do not leave the house, even to get COVID-19 vaccination if you have received a Quarantine Order or self-isolation notice. Anyone with a red or purple BruHealth code are not allowed to leave the house at all, except for seeking medical treatment. This is an offence under the Infectious Diseases Act Chapter 204. In addition, do not allow others to enter the house if you are under quarantine or self-isolation; and
  6. Do not leave the house unnecessarily. Stay at home and work-from-home to play your part in helping the government reduce the spread of the COVID-19 in the country. Practice physical distancing if it is necessary to leave the house.

 

7.          Guided by and practicing zikir, prayers and practices that have been issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, as well as in accordance with all directives issued by the Government, Insya Allah, we will all be able to control the spread of COVID-19 in Brunei Darussalam.
