ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19
IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM
03 Muharram 1443 / 12 August 2021
1. The Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, Thursday, 03 Muharram 1443 / 12 August 2021, forty-nine (49) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 543.
- Additional cases to currently active clusters are as follows:
- 21 cases for Chung Hua KB Cluster;
- 4 cases for ABCi Cluster;
- 3 cases for Immigration Cluster;
- 2 cases for Semporna Enak Cluster; and
- 2 cases for TOTAL Cluster.
- 3 new clusters have been identified as follow:
- 6 new cases today are related to Case 441 and 450 which were reported yesterday. This cluster is now known as the Dragon Boat Cluster;
- One new cluster with three (3) cases have been identified which is now known as Cluster 499, in reference to one of the cases in this cluster.
- Another new cluster with three (3) cases have also been identified involving workers on the Champion 7 oil rig. This cluster is known as the Champion 7 Cluster.
- All the cases reported today are local cases, including 5 cases where the source of infection is still being determined.
- The cases in the active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.
- Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.
2. Meanwhile, 3 cases who were treated at the National Isolation Centre have recovered bringing the total of recovered cases to 322. Currently, a total of 218 active cases have been recorded in Brunei Darussalam.
3. Among the active cases, two are in critical condition requiring ventilation support while two other cases are under close monitoring at the National Isolation Centre.
4. In the past 24 hours, a total of 2,210 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 164,809 tests.
5. To assist the Ministry of Health deal with the current surge of cases, the Ministry of Health welcomes any health workers currently working in private clinics or those who have retired and are able to work and furthermore, wish to become health volunteers to call 7455109.
6. Additionally, members of the public who wish to make donations can do so by contacting the MOH Emergency Operation Centre (MOHEOC) at 7295712 during office hours only.
7. In addition, the Ministry of Health would like to appeal to the public especially blood donors to come forward for blood donation needed to meet current demands in government hospitals. All blood donors are advised to wear a face mask, practice personal hygiene and physical distancing measures at all times.
8. At the time when the country is facing a surge in the number cases, the Ministry of Health would like to advice the public to:
- Always maintain personal hygiene and wash hands regularly;
- Wear a face mask at all times, especially when indoors or when in crowded places either indoor or outdoor;
- Get two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine according to the booking schedule. The Ministry of Health is current working to expand vaccination slots and venues in the near future which will enable more citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam to get vaccinated safely;
- See a doctor and get a SARS-CoV-2 swab test if you have symptoms of infection;
- Do not leave the house, even to get COVID-19 vaccination if you have received a Quarantine Order or self-isolation notice. Anyone with a red or purple BruHealth code are not allowed to leave the house at all, except for seeking medical treatment. This is an offence under the Infectious Diseases Act Chapter 204. In addition, do not allow others to enter the house if you are under quarantine or self-isolation; and
- Do not leave the house unnecessarily. Stay at home and work-from-home to play your part in helping the government reduce the spread of the COVID-19 in the country. Practice physical distancing if it is necessary to leave the house.
