ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19
IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

1. Today, Saturday, 22 Rabiulakhir 1443 / 27 November 2021, a total of seventy-four (74) new cases of COVID-19 infections have been confirmed today bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 14,992.
- There are 32 additional new cases to 4 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.
- Meanwhile, four new clusters have been detected that involved 27 cases. All these new clusters are accommodation clusters.
- As currently shown on the screen, two clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in the clusters for 28 days. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 135 clusters.

- Meanwhile, 15 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.
2. Twenty-five (25) cases have recovered today bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 14,367 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 526 cases.
3. Among the cases being treated at this time, four cases (04) are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation, with one case requiring the help of additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, no other case is categorised in Category 4 that require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.
4. In the past 24 hours, a total of 2,710 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 607,880 tests.
5. On 26 November 2021, a total of 453 individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine injection. This means that, under the National Vaccination Programme, a total of 402,574 individuals have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 93.6% from the total population. Meanwhile, 342,216 individuals have completed the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 79.6% from the total population.
6. For ‘Operasi Peralihan’ that was carried out recently from 10 pm until 4 am, a total of 7 violations of the directive nationwide were issued with compound fines, where four of it were violations of the directive to stay at home.
7. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health in collaboration with Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Duke-NUS Medical School Singapore, and EVYD Technology will conduct a study on the level of neutralising antibodies produced by the COVID-19 vaccine among the population of Brunei Darussalam. This study will be conducted to compare the protective immunity or immunogenicity of the vaccines in which the findings of this study will be able to assist in devising a strategy for the COVID-19 vaccine booster programme and to optimise public health strategies in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic in the Brunei Darussalam. In this regard, commencing Monday, 29 November 2021, a total of 3,000 selected individuals from the population who have fully completed two-doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, that is either with Sinopharm, Oxford-AstraZeneca or Moderna vaccines will be invited via a short messaging service (SMS) to participate and attend for blood tests at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Participants will also receive a follow-up appointment after they are administered with the booster dose to assess the effects of the additional dose. The selected people are urged to cooperate by participating in this upcoming study.
