ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

1.            Today, Friday, 08 Rabiulawal 1443 / 15 October 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that one COVID-19 confirmed cases has returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.

 

2.           Case 8202, who was a 77-year-old man had passed away due to lung problems after being infected with COVID-19 and was treated at the Intensive Care Unit.

 

3.           In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to the case’s family and pray his soul will receive blessings and is placed among the pious. Al-Fatihah.

4.           A total of four hundred and twenty-three (423) new cases of COVID-19 infections have been confirmed bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 10,251.

  1. There are 67 additional new cases to 20 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.
  2. Meanwhile, four new clusters have been detected bringing the total number of active clusters to 162 clusters. All of the new clusters are accommodation clusters where two of it are Swee Sdn Bhd Cluster and Nurisman Sdn Bhd Cluster, and they are housing clusters that accommodate the companies’ employees.
  3. Therefore, the total number of active clusters are 170 clusters.
  4. Meanwhile, 194 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

 

5.           One hundred and eighty-four (184) cases have recovered today bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 7,682 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 2,501 cases.

 

6.           Among the cases being treated at the National Isolation Centre, six cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with two cases requiring the help of additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-nine (29) cases are categorised in Category 4 that require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.

 

7.           In the past 24 hours, a total of 6,203 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 431,203 tests.

 

8.           On 14 October 2021, a total of 6,519 individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine injection. This means that, under the National Vaccination Programme, a total of 339,667 individuals have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 74.9% from the total population. Meanwhile, 224,028 individuals have completed the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 49.4% from the total population.

 

9.           In this regard, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that the Ministry is organizing the administration of a third dose for certain groups that have been identified as frontliners. This is as an additional protective measure for those at high risk of COVID-19 infection. The administration of this third dose will be implemented in phases. Therefore, anyone who has received a second dose in May 2021 will be given an appointment to get a third dose. Those who have been identified will be notified via SMS to the mobile phone number registered in their respective BruHIMS system.

 

10.        Meanwhile, considering that the number of people attending the Sports Complex Swab Centre at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital has decreased after 8 PM, especially after the Operasi Pulih commenced on 4 October 2021, the Ministry of Health has reviewed the operating hours for the Swab Centre which is changed to 8 AM to 8 PM daily commencing tomorrow, Saturday, 16 October 2021.

 

11.         Meanwhile, outcome from the multi-agencies enforcement monitoring that was carried out last night during the out-of-house restriction from 8 PM until 4 AM this morning, a total of 29 violations of the directive nationwide were issued with compound fines, where 22 of them are violations of the out-of-house restriction.

 

12.        Let us all pray to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala that all our efforts to control the spread of the COVID-19 in the country will be blessed and facilitated. May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala always protect us all from the harms and unwanted effects caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Aamiin Aamiin Ya Rabbalalamin. Thank you.
