ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19
IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

1. Today, Monday, 27 Safar 1443 / 4 October 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that four COVID-19 confirmed cases have returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.
2. Case 7766, who was a 51-year-old man and Case 7229, who was an 82-year-old woman suffered lung problems after being infected with COVID-19. Whereas Case 3000, who was a 40-year-old man and Case 4043, who was a 70-year-old woman suffered from several health problems and were not categorised as death due to COVID-19.
3. Meanwhile, the cause of death for Case 6997 who was previously under investigation has been confirmed as death due to the COVID-19 infection.
4. In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to the cases’ families and pray their souls will receive blessings and are placed among the pious. Al-Fatihah.

5. Today, one hundred and eighty-eight (188) new cases of COVID-19 infections have been confirmed bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 7,904.
- There are 45 additional new cases to 17 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.
- Meanwhile, six new clusters have been detected as currently shown on the screen. 4 of these new clusters are private home clusters that involved 32 cases. Meanwhile two clusters that is Fazrul Sdn Bhd Cluster and Kamal Sdn Bhd Cluster are workplace clusters that involved 17 cases. Therefore, to date, the total active clusters are 142 clusters.
- Meanwhile, 94 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.
6. One hundred and seventy-six (176) cases have recovered today bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 5,501 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 2,343 cases.
7. Among the cases being treated at the National Isolation Centre, eight cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with two cases requiring the help of additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, thirty-two (32) cases are categorised in Category 4 that require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.
8. In the past 24 hours, a total of 4,687 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 374,059 tests.
9. On 03 October 2021, a total of 2,508 individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine injection. This means that, under the National Vaccination Programme, a total of 304,668 individuals have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 67.2% from the total population. Meanwhile, 199,674 individuals have completed the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 44.0% from the total population.
As announced in the press conference on 29 September 2021, the Ministry of Health has opened additional vaccination time every Sunday specifically for employees in local companies commencing Sunday, 3 October 2021 at the Indoor Stadium Vaccination Centre. Companies wishing to book their vaccination slots at the additional vaccination time can book via the WhatsApp app only, to the lines 8129148, 8139148, 8189148 and 8146148; or via email to vacc.comp@moh.gov.bn. Bookings for Sunday, 9 October 2021 will be open starting tomorrow, Tuesday, 5 October 2021. The booking terms and conditions will be uploaded on the Ministry of Health’s website.
10. In this opportunity, the Ministry of Health would like to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month which is celebrated every October and aims to draw public attention to the disease. To increase the understanding and knowledge of the disease are important as an initial step to reduce the incidences of breast cancer in the community; prevent and control breast cancer as well as address its related issues; and also, to increase the support in our community and environment. In doing so, Insyaa Allah it is hoped to spread awareness about the importance of breast self-examination (BSE); seek treatment when needed; and provide support and encouragement to those with breast cancer. Therefore, in this Breast Cancer Awareness Month and at a time when the country is still hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Health remains committed and will continue to provide the necessary attention, health care and support.
