ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

1.          Today, Tuesday, 12 Rabiulawal 1443 / 19 October 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that one COVID-19 confirmed case has returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.

 

2.          The case was a 69-year-old woman who suffered from several other health problems and is not categorized as death due to COVID-19.

 

3.          In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to the case’s family and pray the case’s soul will receive blessings and is placed among the pious. Al-Fatihah.

4.          A total of one hundred and seventy-three (173) new cases of COVID-19 infections have been confirmed bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 11,220.

  1. There are 83 additional new cases to 13 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.
  2. Meanwhile, two new clusters have been detected that involved 19 cases. All of the new clusters are accommodation clusters where one of it, HHY Construction Cluster is a housing cluster that accommodates the company’s employees.
  3. Five clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in the clusters for 28 days. The closed clusters are Champion 7 – Platform Cluster, 3340 Cluster, 3395 Cluster, 3733 Cluster and 4944 Cluster. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 166 clusters.
  4. In addition, there are 2 import cases recorded today:
  • 2 cases arrived in Brunei Darussalam from Manila via Royal Brunei Airlines B1684 on 13 October 2021.
  • Meanwhile, 69 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

    5.          One hundred and seventy-nine (179) cases have recovered today bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 8,421 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 2,721 cases.

     

    6.          Among the cases being treated at this time, six cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with two cases require the help of additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-one (21) cases are categorised in Category 4 that require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.

     

    7.          Meanwhile, to date there are 1,630 positive cases being admitted in isolation centres across the country of which 43.6% are local citizens and 56.4% are foreigners.

    8.          In the past 24 hours, a total of 6,254 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 451,179 tests.

     

     

    9.          On 18 October 2021, a total of 5,022 individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine injection. This means that, under the National Vaccination Programme, a total of 344,342 individuals have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 75.9% from the total population. Meanwhile, 234,921 individuals have completed the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 51.8% from the total population.

     

    10.      Furthermore, to provide a clearer picture of the location of the positive cases detected in the county, the Ministry of Health would like to share some of the results of the research that has been conducted. As currently shown on the screen, between 10 October 2021 until 16 October 2021, there are six (6) mukims that have more than 80 positive cases. These mukims are namely; Mukim Sengkurong (321 cases), Mukim Berakas ‘A’ (224 cases), Mukim Mentiri (169 cases), Mukim Berakas ‘B’ (122 cases), Mukim Kuala Belait (175 cases) and Mukim Liang (106 cases).

    11.      Meanwhile, outcome from the multi-agencies enforcement monitoring that was carried out last night during the out-of-house restriction from 8 PM until 4 AM this morning, a total of 6 violations of the directive nationwide were issued with compound fines, where 3 of them are violations of the out-of-house restriction.

     

    12.      In conjunction with this auspicious day, let us all increase selawat and pray that all the efforts that we do to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country will receive blessings from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and may we always be protected from the COVID-19 pandemic.
