ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19
IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

1. Today, Thursday, 14 Rabiulawal 1443 / 21 October 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that one COVID-19 confirmed case has returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.
2. The case was a 50-year-old woman. The cause of death is still under investigation.
3. In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to the case’s family and pray the case’s soul will receive blessings and is placed among the pious. Al-Fatihah.

4. A total of one hundred and fifty-six (156) new cases of COVID-19 infections have been confirmed bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 11,542.
- There are 29 additional new cases to 14 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.
- Meanwhile, five new clusters have been detected that involved 46 cases. All of the new clusters are housing clusters that accommodate the companies’ employees which are Kilanas Staff House Cluster, Megalift Sdn Bhd Cluster, HTB Biltech Sdn Bhd Cluster, Mashor OPS Staff house, and Rani Jaya Staff house Cluster.
- Four clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in the clusters for 28 days. The closed clusters are BSP HQ (Blok M) Cluster, 583 Cluster, 3096 Cluster and 3381 Cluster. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 166 clusters.
- Meanwhile, 81 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.
5. Two hundred and fifty-five (255) cases have recovered today bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 8,874 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 2,588 cases.
6. Among the cases being treated at this time, six cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with tiga cases require the help of additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-two (22) cases are categorised in Category 4 that require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.
7. In the past 24 hours, a total of 6,196 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 460,375 tests.
8. As per the latest data obtained from the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics through the Population Census conducted earlier this year, the Ministry of Health has adjusted the vaccination rate for COVID-19 according to the current total population for 2021. Therefore, as of 20 October 2021 of which a total of 345,754 people had received first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, the new vaccination rate for first dose is 80.4% from the total country population which is adjusted from 76.2%. Meanwhile, for those who have completed the COVID-19 vaccination, a total of 238,491 people had received the second dose that is 55.5% from the total country population which is adjusted from 52.6%.
9. As announced in the previous press conference, the Ministry of Health would like to inform that the Mobile COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic services will be conducted at Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Health Centre, Kampung Sungai Asam tomorrow, Friday, 22 October 2021 and Sunday, 24 October 2021 from 9:00 am until 12.00 noon, especially for residents of Kampung Ayer and its surroundings. The local community there who wish to get the COVID-19 vaccination can come directly by walk-in by bringing along their identification card/passport as well as BruHIMS card (or number), if available.
10. Meanwhile, outcome from the multi-agencies enforcement monitoring that was carried out last night during the out-of-house restriction from 8 PM until 4 AM this morning, a total of 18 violations of the directive nationwide were issued with compound fines, where 10 of them are violations of the out-of-house restriction.
11. Let us cooperate and work together to combat and control the COVID-19 pandemic in Brunei Darussalam. With prayer and tawakkal to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala, lets hope that our country will stay blessed, protected and spared from all the harms of the COVID-19 pandemic. Aamiin Aaminn Ya Rabbalalamin.
