ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

26 Safar 1443 / 03 October 2021

 

1.           Today, Sunday, 26 Safar 1443 / 3 October 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that one COVID-19 confirmed case has passed away.

 

2.           The case was Case 5591, an 83-year-old woman who suffered lung problems after being infected with COVID-19.

 

3.           In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to the case’s family. May the family of the deceased be given patience and strength in seeing his passing.

4.           Today, one hundred and forty-eight (148) new cases of COVID-19 infections have been confirmed bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 7,716.

  1. There are 54 additional new cases to 16 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.
  2. Meanwhile, six new clusters have been detected as currently shown on the screen. 5 of these new clusters are private home clusters while one cluster, Jodico Sdn Bhd is a workplace cluster.
  3. Two clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in the cluster for 28 days. The closed clusters are Lorong Tengah Cluster and 477 Cluster. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 136 clusters.
  4. Meanwhile, 58 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

 

5.           One hundred and thirty-three (133) cases have recovered today bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 5,325 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 2,335 cases.

 

6.           Among the cases being treated at the National Isolation Centre, eight cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with two cases requiring the help of additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, thirty-two (32) cases are categorised in Category 4 that require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.

 

7.           In the past 24 hours, a total of 4,433 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 369,372 tests.

 

8.           On 02 October 2021, a total of 9,017 individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine injection. This means that, under the National Vaccination Programme, a total of 302,258 individuals have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 66.6% from the total population. Meanwhile, 199,576 individuals have completed the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 44.0% from the total population.

 9.           Alhamdulillah, efforts of the Government to increase the vaccination rates through the National Vaccination Programme has shown an increase up to today, the national vaccination rate is above the global rate. However, we still need to step up efforts to achieve the target of at least 80% of the population having completed the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination before the end of 2021.

10.       Meanwhile, following the media statement of the Honourable Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, on 1 October 2021, is hereby informed that as per the provisions of Section 62A of the Infectious Diseases Act Chapter 204, the public is instructed to comply with the media statement of the Honourable Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II which is commencing Monday, 4 October 2021 until Sunday 17 October 2021, the public is required to be at their respective residences every night from 8 pm to 4 am. Exceptions are only given for emergency and urgent matters or those who work as critical frontline workers only, including shift workers. Anyone who is found in violation of this directive without reasonable excuse may be subject to a compound fine of $100 per person for each offense.

 

11.       Therefore, I would like to urge the public to comply to all the directives issued to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Stay at home and do not leave the house without any important purpose. Let us work together to help the Government to restore the state of the nation from COVID-19, for the good and well-being of ourselves and our loved ones. Let’s hope that all our efforts will receive blessings from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and we will all relish the outcomes of the cooperation of all levels of the society, Insya Allah.
