ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19
IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

1. Today, Thursday, 02 Safar 1443 / 09 September 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that one COVID-19 confirmed case has returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.
2. The case was Case 777, who was a 29-year-old woman. This case suffered from lung infection after being infected with COVID-19. While in treatment at the National Isolation Centre, the case had given birth via surgery on 24 August 2021. The case was later admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, National Isolation Centre as she required the assistance of artificial ventilation and an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO).
3. In light of this, in order to protect and respect the privacy as well as confidentiality of the case’s family, the Ministry of Health will not share her personal details. Members of the public are also requested to respect and not disseminate information relating to the case.
4. In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to the case’s family and pray her soul will receive blessings from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and is placed among the pious. Al-Fatihah.

5. The Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, one hundred and forty-eight (148) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 3,831.
- Today, there are two new clusters detected bringing the total number of active clusters to 58 clusters. The new clusters are
- 3788 Cluster which contains 7 cases and 3598 Cluster which contains 4 cases. Both the new clusters include cases that were previously reported as cases for which the source of infection has not been identified.
- There are 37 additional new cases to 16 of the existing active clusters. The cases in these active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.
- Meanwhile, 100 cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.
- Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.
6. One hundred and sixty-four (164) cases have recovered today, where this total includes 106 positive cases from Category 1 that have undergone self-isolation for 14 days at their respective homes. All of them have undergone second swab tests at Day 12 and have been confirmed recovered. With that, the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam has increased to 2,313 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 1,497 cases.
7. Among the active cases, eight cases are in critical condition, where seven cases require assistance of artificial ventilation. Meanwhile, one case still requires the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-eight (28) cases that were categorised in Category 4 are now admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.
8. Meanwhile, Alhamdulillah, two cases have safely given birth via surgery on 08 September 2021. Both mothers and their newborns are in good condition.
9. In the past 24 hours, a total of 4,491 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 264,580 tests.
10. Furthermore, in relation to the viral message on the positive COVID-19 case among the staff at the Jubli Perak Sengkurong Health Centre, the Ministry of Health would like to confirm the case and it is currently under investigation including swab tests and quarantines for the contacts involved, as stipulated under the current case management guidelines. The Ministry of Health would like to assure the public that cleaning of the health centre premises and other health facilities are carried out according to set schedules as per existing SOP. The public, especially patients and visitors of the Jubli Perak Sengkurong Health Centre are advised not to panic about this matter. The public is reminded to continue to follow all the directives to control the spread of COVID-19 such as practicing hand hygiene and physical distancing. In addition, anyone who has any signs of infection should immediately seek treatment and swab test. For the public’s further information, currently, the services at the Jubli Perak Sengkurong Health Centre are running as usual.
11. In this regard, the Ministry of Health would like to advise the public not to believe information and news that is spread over the Internet or through social media without ascertaining its authenticity. Furthermore, the public is reminded to be more responsible and not to disseminate anything that is not officially released by the Ministry.
