ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19
IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

1. Today, Friday, 10 Safar 1443 / 17 September 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that one COVID-19 confirmed case has returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.
2. The case was Case 867, who was a 73-year-old woman. The case suffered a lung infection after being infected with COVID-19 and were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, National Isolation Centre as the case required assistance of artificial ventilation.
3. In light of this, in order to protect and respect the privacy as well as confidentiality of the case’s family, the Ministry of Health will not share the case’s personal details. Members of the public are also requested to respect and not disseminate information relating to the case.
4. In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to the case’s family and pray her soul will receive blessings from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and is placed among the pious. Al-Fatihah.

5. The Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, one hundred and thirty-nine (139) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 4,814.
- Today, there are 41 additional new cases to 10 of the existing active clusters. The cases in these active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.
- Meanwhile, four new clusters have been detected that brings the total number of active clusters to 88 clusters. These new clusters are:
- 4524 Cluster that contains 6 new cases;
- 4446 Cluster that contains 10 new cases;
- 4699 Cluster that contains 8 new cases; and
- 4440 Cluster that contains 3 new cases.
All these new clusters include cases that have been previously reported as cases for which the source of infection has not been identified.
- There is one (1) new import case recorded today that arrived in Brunei Darussalam from Russia via Singapore on 03 September 2021 on board flight SQ 148.
- Meanwhile, 70 cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.
6. One hundred and twelve (112) cases have recovered today, where this total includes 13 positive cases from Category 1 that have undergone self-isolation for 14 days at their respective homes. All of them have undergone second swab tests at Day 12 and have been confirmed recovered. With that, the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam has increased to 3,256 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 1,528 cases.
7. Among the active cases, nine cases are in critical condition, where eight of the cases require assistance of artificial ventilation. Meanwhile, one case requires the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-one (21) cases that were categorised in Category 4 are now admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.
8. In the past 24 hours, a total of 4,925 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 296,362 tests.
9. Furthermore, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that the blood supply stock at the Blood Donation Centre, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital is at a low level. Therefore, the Ministry of Health wold like to call on the public, especially organisers of blood donation campaigns whether from the Government sector, Uniformed Forces, Non-government Organisations, Private Sectors, Higher Learning Institutions, etc., to assist the Blood Donation Centre in its effort to increase the blood supply stock in the country. In this regard, organisers of blood donation campaigns are required to comply with the guidelines from the Ministry of Health to tighten the measures in the prevention and control of COVID-19. Meanwhile, public who wish to donate blood at the Blood Donation Centre, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital are advised to book their blood donation slots using the BloodKad app, which currently, the Blood Donation Centre is only accepting blood donors by appointments and bookings via the BloodKad app.
The operation hours for the blood banks are as follow:
- Blood Bank, Blood Donation Centre, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital and Suri Seri Begawan Hospital, Belait is every Monday to Thursday and Saturday, from 8:00am to 2:00pm.
- Blood Bank, Pengiran Isteri Hajjah Mariam, Temburong is every Monday to Thursday and Saturday, from 9:00am to 11:30am and 1:30pm to 3:30pm.
- Whereas Blood Bank Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah Hospital, Tutong is temporarily closed until a date that will be announced later.
10. The Ministry of Health greatly appreciates the cooperation of all positive cases that have provided support to the Government’s efforts in controlling the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak in particular by voluntarily presenting themselves for isolation at the designated isolation centres. Alhamdulillah, majority of the cases have shown positive attitudes during their monitoring and treatment at the centres. For cases in Category 1 and Category 2 who mostly only require monitoring, they are advised to fill their free time as best as possible while also abiding all the instructions given.
