ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

1.           Today, Wednesday, 22 Safar 1443 / 29 September 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that one COVID-19 confirmed case has returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.

 

2.           The case was Case 3196, who was a 64-year-old man. The case suffered multiple health issues and is not categorized as a COVID-19 death.

 

3.           In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to the case’s family. May the family of the deceased be given patience and strength in seeing his passing.

4.           Today, one hundred and thirty-seven (137) new cases of COVID-19 infections have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 6,950.

  1. There are 18 additional new cases to 7 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.
  2. Meanwhile, four new clusters have been detected. The clusters are:
  • 6090 Cluster that contains 8 cases;
  • 6679 Cluster that contains 6 cases;
  • 4406 Cluster that contains 5 cases; and
  • 6874 Cluster that contains 5 cases;
  • Meanwhile, one cluster have been closed following no new detected cases in the cluster for 28 days. The closed cluster is Champion 7 – Posh Endurance Cluster. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 116 clusters.
  • Whereas, 95 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

    5.           One hundred and forty (140) cases have recovered today bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 4,722 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 2,181 cases.

     

    6.           Among the cases being treated at the National Isolation Centre, six cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with one case requiring the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, thirty-six (36) cases are categorised in Category 4 that require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.

     

    7.           In the past 24 hours, a total of 5,791 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 350,236 tests.

     

    8.           Meanwhile, following the Ministry of Health’s press conference on 23 September 2021 on the extension of vaccination hours at the Indoor Stadium Vaccination Centre for public who have not received the first dose, the Ministry has reviewed the service and will implement the following changes:

     

    1. Commencing Friday, 1 October 2021, the operating hours for the Indoor Stadium Vaccination Centre will be extended from 8 AM to 8 PM on every Friday.
    2. This service is only for the citizens and residents in Brunei Darussalam holding a yellow or purple smart card only and have experienced difficulties to book a first dose  vaccination slot via the BruHealth App.
    3. This service will be provided via booking only where the booking can be made either by phone call, SMS or WhatsApp to the numbers shown currently on the screen. Therefore, vaccination via walk-in on Fridays will no longer apply.
    4. The information required while booking a slot are full name, Smart Card number, Bru-HIMS number (if available); and telephone number that can be contacted.
    5. For the vaccination slots on Friday, 1 October 2021, bookings will be open today, 29 September 2021 from 6 PM until 11 PM and will continue tomorrow, 8 AM until the slots are filled. For the public’s information, a total of 2,000 slots are available for Friday.

     

    9.           Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health is also planning to provide additional vaccination hours for employees in local companies, whether for their local or foreign employees on every Sunday in collaboration with the National Coordination Centre for COVID-19, the Ministry of Finance and Economy and Department of Labour. The vaccination schedule for the employees will be made through the management of the respective companies.
