ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19
IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM
12 Muharram 1443 / 21 August 2021
1. The Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, Saturday, 12 Muharram 1443 / 21 August 2021, one hundred and twenty-two (122) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 1,455.
- Additional cases to currently active clusters are as follows:
- The Champion 7 and surrounding vessels are as follows:
- 9 cases for Cluster Champion 7 – Platform Cluster; and
- 2 cases for Cluster Champion 7 – Blue Titanium Cluster;
- 8 cases for the BSP HQ Cluster (Block M);
- 8 cases for IBTE KB Cluster;
- 7 cases for Chung Hua KB Cluster; and
- 3 cases for Cluster 583.
- Meanwhile, 1 new cluster have been identified with 4 related cases today. This cluster is now known as the 1385 Cluster.
- In addition, there are 2 import cases recorded today:
- Case 1332 arrived in Brunei Darussalam on 6 August 2021 on board flight Singapore Airlines SQ148 from United Kingdom.
- Case 1413 arrived in Brunei Darussalam on 8 August 2021 on board Royal Brunei BI684 from Manila.
- Meanwhile, there are 79 cases where the source of infection is still being determined.
- The cases in the active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.
- Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.
2. Meanwhile, four (4) cases have recovered today bringing the total of recovered cases to 355 cases. This means, a total of 1,096 active cases have been recorded in Brunei Darussalam.
3. Among the active cases, three cases are in critical condition, where two cases require ventilators and one case requires the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-two (22) cases have been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.
4. In the past 24 hours, a total of 6,521 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 195,607 tests.
5. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health would like to inform that efforts are being increased to isolate all positive cases in health facilities. However, there are still delays in some of these efforts. Cases that have been confirmed positive and have not been transferred to health facilities as well as their close contacts who are undergoing quarantine are not allowed to leave their respective places of isolation. For positive cases that have signs of prolonged or worsening infection, it is advisable to immediately call the Ambulance Emergency Line 991.
6. With the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and taking into account the current situation is still unstable in Brunei Darussalam, it is hereby announced that the control measures that have been restricted and informed during the Ministry of Health’s press conference on 7 and 9 August 2021 are extended until Saturday, 04 September 2021.
7. On this occasion, let us be united in controlling the spread of COVID-19 infection. The cooperation of all parties is highly appreciated, especially to be patient in obtaining the services provided such as swab testing, the COVID-19 vaccination and when contacting the Health Advice Line 148. Frontliners are trying their best to perform the duties and responsibilities entrusted to them as best as possible. The public must comply with all directives and advice given by the Government.
