ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

1.           Today, Wednesday, 20 Rabiulawal 1443 / 27 October 2021, a total of one hundred and fifteen (115) new cases of COVID-19 infections have been confirmed bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 12,710.

  1. There are 46 additional new cases to 16 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.
  2. Meanwhile, four new clusters have been detected that involved 14 cases. All the new clusters are accommodation clusters, which one of the clusters namely; Makmur Jaya Construction Staffhouse Cluster is a housing cluster that accommodates the company’s employees.
  3. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 174 clusters.
  4. Meanwhile, 55 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

 

2.           Two hundred and twenty-eight (228) cases have recovered today bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 10,275 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 2,352 cases.

 

3.           Among the cases being treated at this time, nine cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with three cases require the help of additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-two cases are categorised in Category 4 that require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.

 

4.           In the past 24 hours, a total of 5,135 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 487,898 tests.

 

5.           On 26 October 2021, a total of 3242 individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine injection. This means that, under the National Vaccination Programme, a total of 350,200 individuals have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 81.4% from the total population. Meanwhile, 248,558 individuals have completed the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 57.8% from the total population. Whereas among the elderly population aged 60 years and above, a total of 42,008 individuals which is 97.0% have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and a total of 37,890 individuals which is 87.5% have completed two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

 

6.           Furthermore, the Ministry of Health would like to inform that the Mobile COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic services will be conducted at Muara Health Centre on Friday, 29 October 2021 from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm and Sunday, 31 October 2021 from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm, especially for residents of Mukim Serasa and its surroundings.

 

The local community there who wish to get the COVID-19 vaccination can come directly by walk-in by bringing along their identification card/passport as well as BruHIMS card (or number), if available. For those who are unable to attend on their own to the aforementioned health centre due to health problems or limited movement, they can register or be registered through the Village Head for vaccination arrangements at their respective homes.

 

7.           Meanwhile, in preparation for the implementation of vaccination among adolescents aged 12 to 17 years old, consent form has begun to be distributed to parents and guardians through the Ministry of Education. An example of the vaccination consent form for the children is as shown on the current screen. Parents and guardians are requested to complete the form and to bring it along during the vaccination session for your children. It is hoped that this will contribute to a smooth administration of the COVID-19 vaccination when the programme commences in the near future. Meanwhile, for adolescents aged 12 to 17 years old who do not follow the official school system, a special vaccination session will be arranged at the end of the implementation of the vaccination programme for those aged 12 to 17 years old where the method of implementation will be announced at a later date.

 

8.           Meanwhile, outcome from the multi-agencies enforcement monitoring that was carried out last night during the out-of-house restriction from 8 PM until 4 AM this morning, a total of 6 violations of the directive nationwide were issued with compound fines, where 5 of them are violations of the out-of-house restriction.

 

9.           In this opportunity, in regards to former COVID-19 patients who have completed their self-isolation and have been confirmed recovered from the COVID-19 infection, the Ministry of Health would like to advice all employers that these former patients do not need to undergo swab testing before being able to resume work.  Former patients who have been confirmed recovered at this time will not infect others.

10.       Let us together pray to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala’s that Brunei Darussalam stays protected and blessed as well as evaded from all harms of diseases. May all COVID-19 patients be bestowed with health and full recovery, and their families granted patience and perseverance in dealing with any disasters and circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
