ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

27 Muharram 1443 / 05 September 2021

 

1.          Today, Sunday, 27 Muharram 1443 / 05 September 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that one COVID-19 confirmed case has returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.

 

2.          The first case was Case 3264, who was a 60-year-old woman. Her cause of death is still under investigation.  

 

3.          In light of this, in order to protect and respect the privacy as well as confidentiality of the case’s family, the Ministry of Health will not share her personal details. Members of the public are also requested to respect and not disseminate information relating to the case.

 

4.          In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to her family and pray her soul will receive blessings from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and is placed among the pious. Al-Fatihah.

5.          The Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, one hundred and ten (110) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 3,329.

  • Today, there is one new cluster detected bringing the total number of active clusters to 51 clusters. The new cluster contains 5 cases that is related to Case 2839 that was reported on 01 September 2021. This cluster is now known as 2839 Cluster. This new cluster contains cases that have been previously reported as cases for which the source of infection has not been identified.
  • There are 52 additional new cases to 11 of the existing active clusters. The cases in these active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.
  • Meanwhile, 54 cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.
  • Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.

 

6.          One hundred and forty (140) cases have recovered today, where this total includes 59 positive cases from Category 1 that have undergone self-isolation for 14 days at their respective homes. All of them have undergone second swab tests at Day 12 and have been confirmed recovered. With that, the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam has increased to 1,608 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 1,703 cases.

 

7.          Among the active cases, eight cases are in critical condition, where seven cases require assistance of artificial ventilation. Meanwhile, one case still requires the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-nine (29) cases that were categorised in Category 4 are now admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.

 

8.          In the past 24 hours, a total of 3,803 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 249,689 tests.

 

9.          As previously announced during the Ministry of Health’s Press Conference on 2 September 2021, commencing on Monday, 6 September 2021, COVID-19 patients who have been confirmed recovered after 14 days from the date they have been confirmed positive can be allowed to return home and no longer need to undergo self-isolation at home. However, COVID-19 patients who are confirmed recovered and allowed to return home before the 14-day quarantine period ends will be required to undergo the quarantine period at home. Therefore, any former patient who is undergoing self-isolation at home after being confirmed recovered can end their self-isolation commencing tomorrow if they have completed the 14-days quarantine period.

 

10.      In this opportunity, the Ministry of Health would like to express its appreciation for all the contributions made by all parties whether government agencies, groups, associations or individuals to alleviate the burden of COVID-19 patients and facilitate the task performed by frontliners. The Ministry of Health welcomes all donations received in various forms. Anyone wishing to donate can directly contact the MOH Emergency Operation Centre (MOHEOC) at 7295712. Normally, donations will be sent to the Donation Centre except for donations in the form of cooked food which is advised to be sent directly to the relevant locations. Only Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala can repay the sincere kindness that have been given.

 

11.      Let us all pray for the recovery of all patients in Brunei Darussalam, especially those infected with COVID-19. May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala grant perseverance, strength and patience in overcoming all our trials… Aamiin… Aamiin… Ya Rabbal’alamin.
