ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

14 Muharram 1443 / 23 August 2021

 

1.           Today, Monday 14 Muharram 1443 / 23 August 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that one COVID-19 confirmed case has returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.

 

2.           The late patient (Allahyarham) was Case 1379 of COVID-19 in Brunei Darussalam, who was a 56 year old local male and was admitted at the National Isolation Centre on 22 August 2021. Allahyarham suffered from congestive cardiac failure and is not categorised as death due to COVID-19.

 

3.           In light of this, in order to protect and respect the privacy as well as confidentiality of Allahyarham’s family, the Ministry of Health will not share the personal details of the deceased. Members of the public are also requested to respect and not disseminate information relating to Allahyarham.

 

4.           In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to Allahyarham’s family and pray that his soul will receive blessings from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and that he is placed among the pious. Al-Fatihah.

 

5.           The Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, one hundred and four (104) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 1,873.

There are additional cases to currently active clusters are as follows:

    • 5 cases for The Mall Cluster;
    • 3 cases for the Immigration Cluster;
    • 3 cases for the Al-Falah/Freda-Radin Cluster;
    • 2 cases for the Semporna Enak Cluster;
    • 2 cases for the Chung Hua KB Cluster;
    • 2 cases for the Champion 7– Platform Cluster;
    • 2 cases for the Dragon Boat Cluster;
    • 2 cases for the Samima Cluster;
    • 2 cases for the Jaya Hypermart Cluster; and
    • 1 case for the BSP HQ (Block M) Cluster.

       

  • Meanwhile, 1 new cluster have been identified:
    • 10 new cases today are related to Case 418 that was reported on 19 August 2021. This cluster is now known as the 418 Cluster.

 

  • Meanwhile, there are 70 cases where the source of infection is still being determined.

 

  • The cases in the active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.

 

  • Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.

 

6.           Meanwhile, seventeen (17) cases have recovered today bringing the total of recovered cases to 436 cases. This means, a total of 1,432 active cases have been recorded in Brunei Darussalam.

 

7.           Among the active cases, four cases are in critical condition, where three cases require ventilators and one case requires the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-seven cases have been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.

 

8.           In the past 24 hours, a total of 3,866 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 204,923 tests.

 

9.           The Ministry of Health would like to remind the public to follow all the directives that have been issued related to the measures to control the spread of COVID-19 in the country. All these control measures were issued with the aim of stopping the spread of COVID-19 infection. The public is also advised to:

  • Refrain from visiting each other, either to visit relatives or friends. For the elderly living alone, only two family members are allowed to visit. Moreover, for the elderly it is not recommended to visit children or grandchildren as this will increase the risk of infection to themselves.
  • Essential workers that are required on duty are advised to avoid eating in groups with other colleagues during break time.
  • Stores that are allowed to open during this period, including convenient stores, must control the number of customers who come into their respective stores. Visitors are also advised to wait outside the store if the store visited is busy. Any stores that do not implement control measures, they will be fined or brought to court under the Infectious Diseases Act (Chapter 204).

 

10.       At this opportunity, let us all ask for the help of Allah Subhanahu Wa’Taala to relieve us from all forms of disaster, harms and diseases, and to heal all our patients especially those who have been infected with COVID-19.
