In 2020, 378,000 U.S. deaths were attributed to COVID-19, including those listing COVID-19 as an underlying or contributing cause, a new CDC report finds. Concerns have been raised that some deaths are being improperly attributed to COVID-19. However, an assessment of death certificates with COVID-19 and at least one other cause found 97% of these deaths had consistent documentation to support COVID-19 cause of death.
