Bangladesh registered 785 new coronavirus infections over the previous 24 hours till Friday, pushing the total caseload to 520,690.
Besides, casualties linked to the virus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which is responsible for Covid-19, have reached 7,734 with the registration of 16 more deaths during the period.
Of the new deceased, 13 are men and three are women. Among the total dead, 5,880 are men while 1,854 are women.
Currently, there are 47,677 active cases in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.
As per the press release, 833 more people recovered from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries to 465,279.
The recovery rate also continued to improve in the country standing at 89.36 per cent.
During the period, 13,681 samples were tested in 181 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,331,491 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 5.74 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 15.63 per cent
Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.49 per cent.
On Thursday, the country registered 31 deaths and 1,007 infections from coronavirus after testing 15,381 samples with a positivity rate of 6.55 per cent.
Meanwhile, the world has no respite from the coronavirus as it registered record cases and deaths during the last 24 hours till 10am on Friday.
Some 15,846 deaths were reported during the period to take the global death toll to 1,906,693, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.
Besides, the virus has so far infected 88,499,938 people, including 859,841 during the 24 hours, around the world.
Of the currently infected 22,981,869 patients, 22,873,539 are in mild condition while 108,330 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 63,611,376 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 22,132,045 and 374,124 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,414,044 and third highest fatalities of 150,606 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 200,498 and third highest cases of 7,961,673.
