Bangladesh registered 578 fresh coronavirus cases over the previous 24 hours till Saturday, raising the total caseload to 527,063. 

Besides, fatalities from the virus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which is responsible for Covid-19, have climbed to 7,883 with the deaths of 21 more people during the period.

Of the new deceased, 13 are men and eight are women. Among the total dead, 5,976 are men while 1,907 are women.

Currently, there are 47,424 active cases in the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 633 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 471,756. 

The recovery rate also continued to improve standing at 89.51 per cent.

During the period, 12,215 samples were tested in 199 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,444,007 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 4.73 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 15.30 per cent

Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.49 per cent.

On Friday, the country registered 13 deaths and 762 infections from coronavirus after testing 13,678 samples with a positivity rate of 5.57 per cent.

Meanwhile, the global death tally from coronavirus has reached 2,017,903 as of Saturday morning.

Besides, the virus has so far infected 94,314,589 people around the world, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 24,951,357 patients, 24,839,932 are in mild condition while 111,425 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 67,345,329 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 24,102,429 and 401,856 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,543,659 and third highest fatalities of 152,130 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 208,291 and third highest cases of 8,394,253.
