The death toll from the coronavirus has jumped to 7,803 in Bangladesh after the health authorities announced 22 more Covid-19 fatalities over the past 24 hours till Monday.
Of the new deceased, 15 are men and seven are women. Among the total dead, 5,927 are men while 1,876 are women.
Besides, the virus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which is responsible for Covid-19, sickened 849 more people during the period to take the total cases in the country to 523,302.
Currently, there are 47,781 active cases in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.
As per the press release, 917 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 467,718.
The recovery rate also continued to improve standing at 89.38 per cent.
During the period, 14,097 samples were tested in 193 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,371,416 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 6.02 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 15.52 per cent
Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.49 per cent.
On Sunday, the country registered 25 deaths and 1,071 infections from coronavirus after testing 12,920 samples with a positivity rate of 8.29 per cent.
Meanwhile, confirmed coronavirus cases have jumped to 90,691,625 around the world as of Monday morning.
Besides, the death tally from the virus has reached 1,943,131 globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 23,934,933 patients, 23,826,392 are in mild condition while 108,541 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 64,813,561 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 22,917,334 and 383,275 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,467,431 and third highest fatalities of 151,198 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 203,140 and third highest cases of 8,105,790.
