Bangladesh on Wednesday detected 528 more coronavirus cases over the latest 24 hours to bring the total caseload to 533,444.

Besides, the death toll from the virus, responsible for Covid-19, has reached 8,072 after it claimed the lives of 17 more people during the period.

Of the new deceased, eight are men and nine are women. Among the total dead, 6,115 are men while 1,958 are women.

Currently, there are 47,437 active cases in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 509 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 477,935.

The recovery rate also stands at 89.59 per cent.

During the period, 15,720 samples were tested in 200 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,600,508 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 3.36 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 14.82 per cent

Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.51 per cent.

On Tuesday, the country logged 14 deaths and 515 infections from coronavirus after testing 14,401 samples with a positivity rate of 3.58 per cent.

Meanwhile, global coronavirus cases have climbed to 100,826,681 as of Wednesday morning.

Besides, the death toll from the virus has reached 2,167,092 around the world, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 25,814,649 patients, 25,706,773 are in mild condition while 110,299 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 72,844,940 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 26,011,222 and 435,452 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,690,279 and third highest fatalities of 153,751 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 218,918 and third highest cases of 8,936,590.
