The Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory identified 420 positive COVID-19 cases – 172 males and 248 females – from the 1,978 tests conducted on Wednesday, January 5.
The cases comprised 65 persons under the age of 18, and 355 who were 18 years and older. There were 184 people in isolation facilities, while 2,019 were in home isolation.
A boy, aged 14, died from the virus on Wednesday, at the Enmore Isolation Facility. He was unvaccinated. As at January 5, there were 264 deaths from the virus.
The public health laboratory has carried out 480,205 tests since February 2020, and recorded 30,597 COVID-19 cases (14,392 males and 16,205 females).
Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, the total number of persons with at least one dose is 156,101 (68.3 per cent of the eligible population).
The total number of persons who are fully vaccinated is 143,867 (53.1 per cent of the total population or 63 per cent of the eligible population). The eligible population represents those persons who are 12 years and older.
