The Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory identified 284 new COVID-19 cases, 129 males and 155 females, on Friday, October 8.  Tests carried out numbered 2,389.

The new cases comprise 56 persons under the age of 18, and 228 people who are 18 years and older.

There are 519 people in isolation facilities, and 2,082 in home isolation.

Two persons died from the virus, a 55-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman. Both were unvaccinated.  Ninety lives have been lost to COVID-19

Confirmed cases of the virus recorded, since March 2020, have reached 10,667 (5,181 males and 5,486 females).

The public health laboratory has conducted 338,510 tests, to date.

Under the National Vaccination Programme, 141,307 people have been given first doses of the COVID-19 vaccines. The number of persons who have received second doses and are now fully vaccinated is 111,214, which is 41 per cent of the total population or 48.7 per cent of the eligible population. The eligible population represents those persons who are 12 years and older.
