Thirty-seven new cases of COVID-19, 16 males and 21 females, have been recorded by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory. There were 983 tests conducted on Sunday, August 29.

The 37 new positives comprise 28 people who are 18 years old and over, and nine under the age of 18.

Barbados recorded another COVID-19 death on Sunday. A 44-year-old Barbadian male died after spending 17 days in primary isolation. He had an underlying condition and was unvaccinated. The Ministry of Health and Wellness extends sincere condolences to his family and friends. His death brings to 50 the number of people who have succumbed to the viral illness.

There are currently 292 persons in isolation.

Since March last year, confirmed COVID-19 cases have reached 4,968 (2,439 females and 2,529 males).

The public health laboratory has carried out 260,379 tests since February 2020.

The National Vaccination Programme has seen 108,702 people receive first doses of the COVID-19 vaccines. Additionally, 94,063 persons (34.7 per cent of the population) have been given second doses and are fully vaccinated.
