Reported coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have reached 362,043 after the health authorities announced the detection of 1,488 more infections over the last 24 hours till Tuesday.

Besides, 26 more deaths linked to Covid-19 were recorded during the period to take the total casualties in the country to 5,219.

Of the new deceased, 21 are men and five are women. Among the total dead, 4,039 or 77.39 percent are men while 1,180 or 22.61 percent are women.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 1,625 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours to take the total recoveries in the country to 273,698.

During the period, 12,869 samples were tested in 106 labs across the country. With this, a total of 1,934,251 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 11.56 percent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 18.72 percent.

The recovery rate continued to rise in Bangladesh reaching 75.60 percent while the mortality rate is 1.44 percent, one of the lowest in the world.

On Monday, Bangladesh recorded 32 deaths and 1,407 infections from coronavirus after testing 11,922 samples with a positivity rate of 11.80 percent.

Meanwhile, casualties linked to Covid-19 have reached 1,006,379 around the world as of Tuesday morning.

Besides, 33,552,152 people have so far been infected with the virus in different countries, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 7,664,825 patients, 7,599,507 are in mild condition while 65,318 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 24,880,948 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 7,361,611 and 209,808 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 6,145,291 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 142,161.
