CDC’s Anne Meyers worked on health messaging for COVID-19 in New Orleans in March 2020 and the Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota in late summer 2020. As a health communication specialist, Anne relayed guidance like the importance of staying 6 feet apart and wearing masks to state and religious leaders to share with their communities. Vaccines were not yet available, and prevention measures were critical in protecting against COVID-19. Anne learned a common lesson in both places: when communities & their leaders come together to do the right things, they help save lives.
