The coronavirus caseload in Bangladesh has reached 525,723 with the registration of 813 more cases over the latest 24 hours till Thursday.

Besides, 16 more people succumbed to the virus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which is responsible for Covid-19, during the period to take the national death tally to 7,849.

Of the new deceased, 11 are men and five are women. Among the total dead, 5,954 are men while 1,895 are women.

Currently, there are 47,469 active cases in the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 883 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 470,405.

The recovery rate also continued to improve standing at 89.49 per cent.

During the period, 16,608 samples were tested in 199 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,418,114 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 4.90 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 15.38 per cent

Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.49 per cent.

On Wednesday, the country registered 14 deaths and 890 infections from coronavirus after testing 15,727 samples with a positivity rate of 5.66 per cent.

Meanwhile, coronavirus claimed the lives of highest 16,747 people around the world in the last 24 hours till 10am on Thursday. In total, the global death toll has reached 1,986,842.

Besides, confirmed coronavirus cases have reached 92,775,578, including 766,075 reported during the period, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 24,495,291 patients, 23,826,392 are in mild condition while 112,120 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 66,293,445 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 23,616,345 and 393,928 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,512,831 and third highest fatalities of 151,765 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 206,009 and third highest cases of 8,257,459.
