Reported coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have reached 524,020 with the detection of 718 more cases over the previous 24 hours till Tuesday.
Besides, 16 more casualties from the virus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which is responsible for Covid-19, were reported during the period to take the national death toll to 7,819.
Of the new deceased, 10 are men and six are women. Among the total dead, 5,937 are men while 1,882 are women.
Currently, there are 47,520 active cases in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.
As per the press release, 963 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 468,681.
The recovery rate also continued to improve standing at 89.44 per cent.
During the period, 14,363 samples were tested in 193 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,385,779 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 5.00 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 15.48 per cent
Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.49 per cent.
On Sunday, the country registered 25 deaths and 1,071 infections from coronavirus after testing 12,920 samples with a positivity rate of 8.29 per cent.
Meanwhile, the global coronavirus cases have climbed to 91,318,240 as of Tuesday morning.
Besides, the world has so far suffered 1,952,932 virus casualties, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 24,074,087 patients, 23,826,392 are in mild condition while 108,804 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 65,291,221 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 23,143,197 and 385,249 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,479,913 and third highest fatalities of 151,364 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 203,617 and third highest cases of 8,133,833.
