Bangladesh has recorded 387 fresh coronavirus cases over the previous 24 hours till Tuesday to bring the total infections to 538,765. 

Besides, fatalities linked to the virus, which is responsible for Covid-19, have reached 8,229 after eight more people died during the period.

Of the new deceased, seven are men and one is woman. Among the total dead, 6,236 are men while 1,993 are women.

Currently, there are 45,963 active cases in the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 642 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 484,573.

The recovery rate also stands at 89.94 per cent.

During the period, 14,468 samples were tested in 206 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,777,242 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 2.67 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 14.26 per cent

Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.53 per cent.

On Monday, the country registered 16 deaths and 316 infections from coronavirus after testing 13,762 samples with a positivity rate of 2.30 per cent.

Meanwhile, total coronavirus cases across the world have surged to 107,006,667 as of Tuesday morning.

Besides, 2,336,303 people have so far died from the virus infections globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 25,672,857 patients, 25,716,870 are in mild condition while 102,935 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 78,997,507 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 27,700,629 and 476,405 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,847,790 and third highest fatalities of 155,195 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 232,248 and third highest cases of 9,550,301.
