The coronavirus caseload in Bangladesh has reached 529,031  with the detection of 702 more infections over the latest 24 hours till Tuesday.

Besides, 20 more casualties were reported from the virus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which is responsible for Covid-19, during the period to push the national death tally to 7,942. 

Of the new deceased, 14 are men and six are women. Among the total dead, 6,018 are men while 1,924 are women.

Currently, there are 47,234 active cases in the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 682 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 473,855. 

The recovery rate also continued to improve standing at 89.57 per cent.

During the period, 15,097 samples were tested in 199 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,485,257 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 4.65 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 15.18 per cent

Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.50 per cent.

On Monday, the country registered 16 deaths and 697 infections from coronavirus after testing 12,707 samples with a positivity rate of 5.49 per cent.

Meanwhile, reported coronavirus cases around the world have reached 96,008,788 as of Tuesday morning.

Besides, the global death toll from the virus has jumped to 2,049,311, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 25,330,394 patients, 25,218,511 are in mild condition while 111,883 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 68,629,083 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 24,626,376 and 408,620 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,582,647 and third highest fatalities of 152,593 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 210,328 and third highest cases of 8,512,238.
