The coronavirus death toll in Bangladesh has jumped to 228 with 14 new deaths in the last 24 hours till Sunday.

Besides, confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country have jumped to 14657 with 887 more infections recorded during the period.

This is the highest daily surge in the coronavirus cases in Bangladesh. Earlier on May 6, highest 790 more infections were reported in a 24-hour period.
Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin at the Management Information System (MIS) in the afternoon. 

She said 236 more patients recovered from Covid-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 2,650.

Prof Nasima said 5,738 samples were tested at 35 labs across the country in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 122,657 tested in the country.

On Saturday, Bangladesh recorded eight more deaths from coronavirus and 636 new cases.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has jumped to 280,431.

It has so far infected 4,100,729 people around the world, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 2,378,823 patients, 2,331,142 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, while 47,681 or 2 percent are in serious condition.

So far, 1,441,475 people have recovered from COVID-19.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.

The coronavirus is affecting 212 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.
