Coronavirus has sickened 454 more people in Bangladesh over the latest 24 hours till Friday to bring to confirmed cases to 534,407

Besides, the fatalities from the virus, which is responsible for Covid-19, have reached 8,094 with the deaths of only seven more people during the period.

Of the new deceased, six are men and one is woman. Among the total dead, 6,133 are men while 1,961 are women.

Currently, there are 47,353 active cases in the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 414 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 478,960

The recovery rate also stands at 89.62 per cent.

During the period, 12,075 samples were tested in 204 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,627,413 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 3.76 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 14.73 per cent

Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.51 per cent.

On Thursday, the country registered 15 deaths and 509 infections from coronavirus after testing 14,830 samples with a positivity rate of 3.43 per cent.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the coronavirus around the world has reached 2,200,698 as of Friday morning.

Besides, confirmed cases have climbed to 102,029,044 globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 25,966,601 patients, 25,860,224 are in mild condition while 109,837 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 73,861,745 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 26,338,607 and 443,769 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,720,971 and third highest fatalities of 154,047 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 221,676 and third highest cases of 9,060,786.
