Bangladesh has recorded its highest daily surge in both deaths and infections from coronavirus since the outbreak began in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported a further 3,171 cases and 45 deaths in the past 24 hours. In total, 71,675 cases and 975 deaths have been confirmed as of Tuesday.
Of the new deceased, 33 are men while 12 are women.

This is the biggest jump in coronavirus cases and deaths in the country since the first three cases were reported on March 8 and first death was recorded on March 8.
Previous highest 2,911 cases were reported on June 2 while record 42 deaths were registered for two consecutive days on June 7 and 8.
With this, Bangladesh has also recorded over 3,000 coronavirus cases in a single day for the first time.
The uptick in numbers follows an increase in tests with highest 14,664 carried out in the last 24 hours against Monday’s 12,944.
DGHS Additional Director General Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.
She said 777 more patients recovered from COVID-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 15,337.
Prof Nasima said record 14,664 samples were tested in 55 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 425,595 samples have so far been tested in the country.
In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 21.62 percent, she said.
The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 21.40 while mortality rate is 1.36.
On Monday, Bangladesh recorded record 42 deaths from coronavirus and 2,735 cases.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 408,744 as of Tuesday noon.
Besides, it has so far infected 7,200,364 people around the world, according to Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 3,254,643patients, 3,200,842 are in mild condition while 53,801 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 3,536,977 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 2,026,493 and 113,055 respectively while Brazil has the 2nd highest cases at 710,887 and the UK 2nd highest death toll at 40,597.
