The coronavirus caseload in Bangladesh has surged to 543,024 after the registration of 350 new infections over the last 24 hours till Saturday.
Besides, five more deaths were reported from the virus, which is responsible for Covid-19, during the period to take the death toll in the country to 8,342.
Of the new deceased, three are men and four are women. Among the total dead, 6,314 are men while 2,028 are women.
Currently, there are 43,790 active cases in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.
As per the press release, 424 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 490,892.
The recovery rate also stands at 90.40 per cent.
During the period, 11,148 samples were tested in 214 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,933,637 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 3.14 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 13.80 per cent
Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.54 per cent.
On Friday, the country recorded eight deaths and 406 infections from coronavirus after testing 14,232 samples with a positivity rate of 2.85 per cent.
Meanwhile, coronavirus cases have reached 111,234,365 across the world as of Saturday morning.
Besides, the virus has so far claimed the lives of 2,462,703 people globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 22,628,914 patients, 22,565,335 are in mild condition while 94,899 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 86,111,428 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 28,603,813 and 507,746 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,976,776 and third highest fatalities of 156,240 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 244,955 and third highest cases of 10,081,693.
