Bangladesh on Wednesday detected 890 more coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours to bring the total caseload to 524,910.
Besides, casualties from the virus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which is responsible for Covid-19, have jumped to 7,833 with the deaths of 14 more people during the period.
Of the new deceased, six are men and eight are women. Among the total dead, 5,943 are men while 1,890 are women.
Currently, there are 47,555 active cases in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.
As per the press release, 841 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 469,522.
The recovery rate also continued to improve standing at 89.45 per cent.
During the period, 15,727 samples were tested in 199 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,401,506 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 5.66 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 15.43 per cent
Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.49 per cent.
On Tuesday, the country registered 16 deaths and 718 infections from coronavirus after testing 14,363 samples with a positivity rate of 5 per cent.
Meanwhile, confirmed coronavirus cases around the world have reached 92,009,503 as of Wednesday morning.
Besides, the virus has so far killed 1,970,095 people globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 24,216,885 patients, 23,826,392 are in mild condition while 110,135 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 65,822,523 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 23,368,225 and 389,599 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,495,816 and third highest fatalities of 151,564 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 204,726 and third highest cases of 8,195,637.
