The coronavirus caseload in Bangladesh has jumped to 537,770 after the health authorities announced the detection of 305 new infections over the previous 24 hours till Saturday.
Besides, eight new casualties were reported from the virus, which is responsible for Covid-19, during the period to bring the death toll in the country to 8,190.
Of the new deceased, six are men and two are women. Among the total dead, 6,206 are men while 1,984 are women.
Currently, there are 46,739 active cases in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.
As per the press release, 417 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 482,841.
The recovery rate also stands at 89.79 per cent.
During the period, 12,135 samples were tested in 206 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,736,608 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 2.51 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 14.39 per cent
Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.52 per cent.
On Friday, the country registered seven deaths and 435 infections from coronavirus after testing 15,566 samples with a positivity rate of 2.79 per cent.
Meanwhile, Coronavirus cases across the world have reached 105,906,775 as of Saturday morning.
Besides, 2,308,846 people have so far died from the virus infections globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 25,928,585 patients, 25,968,508 are in mild condition while 106,997 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 77,524,424 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 27,407,324 and 470,705 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,815,222 and third highest fatalities of 154,956 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 230,127 and third highest cases of 9,449,088.
