Confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have reached 542,674 after the health authorities announced the detection of 406 fresh infections over the last 24 hours till Friday.
Besides, eight new deaths were reported from the virus, which is responsible for Covid-19, during the period to take the national death tally to 8,337.
Of the new deceased, six are men and two are women. Among the total dead, 6,041 are men while 2,026 are women.
Currently, there are 43,869 active cases in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.
As per the press release, 536 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 490,468.
The recovery rate also stands at 90.38 per cent.
During the period, 14,232 samples were tested in 214 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,922,489 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 2.85 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 13.83 per cent
Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.54 per cent.
On Thursday, the country recorded 15 deaths and 391 infections from coronavirus after testing 14,603 samples with a positivity rate of 2.68 per cent.
Meanwhile, coronavirus cases have reached 110,824,588 around the world as of Friday morning.
Besides, the virus has so far killed 2,451,458 people globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 22,605,131 patients, 22,511,433 are in mild condition while 95,519 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 85,766,178 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 28,523,524 and 505,309 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,962,189 and third highest fatalities of 156,123 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 243,610 and third highest cases of 10,030,626.
