Bangladesh recorded 1,788 new infections from coronavirus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which causes Covid-19, over the last 24 hours till Sunday, bringing the total caseload to 462,407. 
 
Besides, fatalities linked to the virus have jumped to 6,609 after of 29 more Covid-19 patients lost their battle during the period.

Of the new deceased, 23 are men and six are women. Among the total dead, 5,075 or 76.79 percent are men while 1,534 or 23.21 percent are women.

Currently, there are 77,626 active cases in the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 2,287 more patients recuperated in the last 24 hours to take the total recoveries in the country to 378,172.

During the period, 13,737 samples were tested in 118 labs across the country. With this, a total of 2,757,329 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 13.02 percent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 16.77 percent.

The recovery rate in Bangladesh stands at 81.78 percent.

Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.43 percent.

On Saturday, the country reported 36 deaths and 1,908 infections from coronavirus after testing 14,012 samples with a positivity rate of 13.62 percent.

Bangladesh reported its first three coronavirus cases on March 8 last while the first death on March 18.

Meanwhile, the world is reeling under the coronavirus registering 585,133 infections from the virus over the last 24 hours till 10am on Sunday to push the total to 62,573,187.

Besides, the virus has so far killed 458,305 people, including 9,191 during the period, in different countries, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 17,920,898 patients, 17,815,646 are in mild condition while 105,252 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 43,193,984 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 13,610,357 and 272,254 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 9,393,039 and third highest fatalities of 136,733 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 172,637 and third highest cases of 6,290,272.
