Reported coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have jumped to 539,531 with the detection of 418 fresh infections over the last 24 hours till Thursday.
Besides, nine new fatalities were reported from the virus, which is responsible for Covid-19, during the period, raising the national death tally to 8,248.
Of the new deceased, five are men and four are women. Among the total dead, 6,248 are men while 2,000 are women.
Currently, there are 45,312 active cases in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.
As per the press release, 681 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 485,971.
The recovery rate also stands at 90.07 per cent.
During the period, 15,776 samples were tested in 210 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,808,017 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 2.65 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 14.17 per cent
Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.53 per cent.
On Wednesday, the country registered 10 deaths and 388 infections from coronavirus after testing 14,999 samples with a positivity rate of 2.59 per cent.
Meanwhile, coronavirus cases have jumped to 107,853,095 across the world as of Thursday morning.
Besides, the virus has so far killed 2,364,938 people globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 25,483,714 patients, 25,530,750 are in mild condition while 101,470 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 80,004,443 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 27,897,214 and 483,200 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,871,060 and third highest fatalities of 155,399 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 234,945 and third highest cases of 9,662,305.
