The death toll from coronavirus in Bangladesh has jumped past 1,100 to reach 1,139 with the deaths of 44 more Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours till Saturday.

Of the new deceased, 33 are men while 11 are women.

Besides, 2,856 more coronavirus cases were reported during the period, taking the confirmed cases in the country to 84,379.

New infections saw a fall by 615 than Friday’s 3,471 although there was an increase in the number of tests.

During the period, record 16,638 samples were tested, up by 648 than Friday’s 15,990.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said 578 more patients recovered from COVID-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 17,827.

Prof Nasima said highest 16,638 samples were tested in 59 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 489,960 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 17.17 percent, she said.

The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 21.13 while mortality rate is 1.35.

On Friday, Bangladesh recorded 46 deaths from coronavirus and 3,471 cases.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 428,248 as of Saturday morning.

Besides, it has so far infected 7,732,952 people in different countries around the world, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 3,348,405 patients, 3,294,518 are in mild condition while 53,887 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 3,956,299 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 2,116,922 and 116,825 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd place with 829,902 cases and 41,901 deaths respectively.

Coronavirus has affected 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.
