Confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have reached 521,382 with the registration of 692 more infections over the previous 24 hours.
Besides, the virus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which is responsible for Covid-19, took away the lives of 22 more people during the period to take the national death tally to 7,756.
Of the new deceased, 15 are men and seven are women. Among the total dead, 5,895 are men while 1,861 are women.
Currently, there are 47,562 active cases in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.
As per the press release, 785 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 466,064.
The recovery rate also continued to improve standing at 89.39 per cent.
During the period, 12,908 samples were tested in 181 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,344,399 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 5.36 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 15.59 per cent
Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.49 per cent.
On Friday, the country registered 16 deaths and 785 infections from coronavirus after testing 13,681 samples with a positivity rate of 5.74 per cent.
Meanwhile, the world continued to reel under the coronavirus as the global cases have jumped to 89,356,726 as of Saturday morning.
Besides, the death tally around the world has reached 1,922,100, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 23,425,104 patients, 22,873,539 are in mild condition while 108,904 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 64,009,522 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 22,456,902 and 378,149 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,432,526 and third highest fatalities of 150,835 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 201,542 and third highest cases of 8,015,920.
