Bangladesh on Friday included 2,273 new infections from coronavirus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which causes Covid-19, to push the total caseload to 458,711. 

Besides, virus-related deaths have jumped to 6,544 after 20 more Covid-19 patients lost their lives during the period.

Of the new deceased, 17 are men and three are women. Among the total dead, 5,024 or 76.77 percent are men while 1,520 or 23.23 percent are women.

Currently, there are 78,491 active cases in the country. 

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 2,223 more patients recuperated in the last 24 hours to take the total recoveries in the country to 373,676. 

During the period, 16,378 samples were tested in 118 labs across the country. With this, a total of 2,729,580 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 13.88 percent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 16.81 percent.

The recovery rate in Bangladesh stands at 81.46 percent.

Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.43 percent.

On Thursday, the country reported 37 deaths and 2,292 infections from coronavirus after testing 17,052 samples with a positivity rate of 13.44 percent.

Bangladesh reported its first three coronavirus cases on March 8 last while the first death on March 18.

Meanwhile, confirmed cases from coronavirus around the world have reached 61,308,161 as of 10am on Friday as the virus rages on.

Besides, 1,437,835 people have so far died from the virus in different countries, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer. 

Of the currently infected 17,474,965 patients, 17,369,955 are in mild condition while 105,010 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 42,395,361 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 13,248,676 and 269,555 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 9,309,871 and third highest fatalities of 135,752 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 171,497 and third highest cases of 6,204,570.
