A new CDC report finds a COVID-19 outbreak among members of a high school football team was likely caused by infrequent mask use, inadequate physical distancing and ventilation, and insufficient cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing practices. It led to more than 2,000 lost days of in-person learning as more than 260 students had to isolate or quarantine. These findings reinforce the importance of preventive strategies to limit spread of COVID-19 in schools and maintain in-person learning. Some of these strategies include testing players and staff, wearing masks, staying 6 feet apart during practice, and limiting in-person extracurricular activities according to CDC guidelines.
