A new CDC MMWR report shows that vaccine safety monitoring systems are working, including detecting anxiety-related events like fainting that aren’t generally serious.
Fainting, near-fainting, and other anxiety-related events like rapid breathing or low blood pressure can occur after any vaccination. The review showed that fainting was more common among people who got Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen #COVID19 Vaccine compared with flu vaccination.
The reasons for this are not clear yet, but the finding underscores the importance of observing patients for 15 minutes post-vaccination for reactions, including anaphylaxis as well as other immediate reactions like anxiety, fainting or near-fainting. More: bit.ly/MMWR43021b
