ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

1.           Today, Thursday, 21 Rabiulawal 1443 / 28 October 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that one COVID-19 confirmed case has returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.

 

2.           The case was a 68-year-old man who suffered from several health problems and is not categorised as death due to the COVID-19 infection.

 

3.           In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to the case’s family and pray the case’s soul will receive blessings and is placed among the pious. Al-Fatihah.

4.           A total of one hundred and thirteen (113) new cases of COVID-19 infections have been confirmed bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 12,823.

  1. There are 50 additional new cases to 11 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.
  2. Meanwhile, three new clusters have been detected that involved 27 cases. All the new clusters are accommodation clusters, which two of the clusters namely; HHY Construction Staffhouse Cluster and KYG Construction Staffhouse Cluster are housing clusters that accommodate the companies’ employees.
  3. Three clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in the clusters for 28 days. The closed clusters are 3095 Cluster, 6679 Cluster and 6874 Cluster.
  4. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 174 clusters.
  5. Meanwhile, 36 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

 

5.           One hundred and seventy-three (173) cases have recovered today bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 10,448 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 2,291 cases.

 

6.           Among the cases being treated at this time, eight cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with three cases require the help of additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty cases are categorised in Category 4 that require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.

 

7.           In the past 24 hours, a total of 5,249 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 493,147 tests.

 

8.           On 27 October 2021, a total of 2284 individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine injection. This means that, under the National Vaccination Programme, a total of 350,792 individuals have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 81.6% from the total population. Meanwhile, 250,222 individuals have completed the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 58.2% from the total population. Whereas among the elderly population aged 60 years and above, a total of 42,075 individuals which is 97.2% have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and a total of 38,047 individuals which is 87.9% have completed two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

 

9.           Meanwhile, in preparation for the implementation of the National Vaccination Programme for adolescents aged 12 to 17 years old, the Ministry of Health has reviewed the appointment dates of second dose administration for adults in all vaccination centres. It is hereby informed that the appointment dates of second dose administration for adults will be shifted automatically. Some of the appointments will be brought forward while the rest will be slightly delayed. However, the Ministry of Health would like to assure the public that these changes are in line with the health protocol for the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine.

 

10.       For the public’s information, these changes will involve a few vaccination centres. For instance, at the Indoor Stadium Vaccination Centre, this change will involve the appointment dates of second dose administration for adults scheduled for 08 until 21 November 2021. A total of 10,860 second dose appointments will be brought forward to 01 until 07 November 2021. Meanwhile, another total of 9,113 second dose appointments will be delayed to 22 until 28 November 2021. These changes will be implemented to allow for the smooth implementation of the first dose administration of the COVID-19 vaccine specifically for adolescents aged 12 to 17 years which is expected to be implemented during the period. However, any changes on this matter will be notified later on.

 

11.       For Operasi Pulih that was carried out recently from 8 PM until 4 AM, a total of 10 violations of the directive nationwide were issued with compound fines, where 7 of them are violations of the out-of-house restriction.

 

12.       The Ministry of Health would like to urge all citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam to comply with all directives issued by the Government. May we all be protected and be evaded from all dangers due to COVID-19. Aamiin Aamiin Ya Rabbalalamin. Thank you.
